Stocked Grades

Motorsport / Aerospace

Premium grade steel for advanced industry-specific applications

Aerospace and motorsport operate in very different environments, but both demand the same fundamentals: advanced materials, extreme performance, zero tolerance for failure and absolute confidence in steel integrity. In both sectors, selecting the right steel is critical - not just to meet specification, but to perform reliably under the most demanding conditions.

In motorsport, marginal gains are achieved at the limits of performance. Components are exposed to extreme loads, temperatures and dynamic stresses, where availability and dependability can be as critical as material performance.

We stock and source VAR, VIM and ESR re-melted steels, including key grades such as 300M and S156, alongside aerospace and commercial quality air-melted grades - ensuring teams have access to trusted materials when timing is critical.

Our key mill relationships enable faster lead times on critical aerospace and motorsport grades, without compromising on quality, consistency or metallurgical control, while Hillfoot’s stockholding expertise and technical support deliver greater resilience, availability and supply chain confidence.

Steel Grade Equivalents

The table below details similar steel grades to the most commonly used engineering steels.

The column on the left shows some of the steel grades stocked by Hillfoot, while the middle columns show their steel equivalents, steel grades with similar chemistry, and the two columns on the right display grades for potential substitution.

All grades in blue are stocked by Hillfoot and clicking on the link will take you to a detail page, where you will be able to download a datasheet.

Should you need any technical advice about grade selection or have queries about the price and availability of the steel required for your manufacturing process, our friendly team is easy to reach and will be more than happy to help.

Similar Grades

Grades of similar (not identical) chemistry. Please note the similar grades are based on chemistry only, and may not meet the necessary mechanical properties (in the standard ‘as stocked’ state).

Grades for Potential Substitution

Grades capable of achieving similar mechanical properties (material may need further treatment to achieve the desired properties). The potential substitution grades are based on mechanical properties, not necessarily the chemical analysis.
