080A42 - Medium Carbon Steel

Surcharge

Both Scrap and most alloys saw a small increase going into April, meaning surcharges for the majority of grades increased slightly.

Nickel has been rising steadily (albeit not significantly) in recent weeks and therefore we would expect to see this filter through to the surcharges in the coming weeks.

Surcharge information as listed via Liberty Speciality Steels where possible, other based on mean chemical analysis for the given grade.

080A42 grade steel is a medium carbon steel capable of achieving moderate tensile strengths by normalising or quenching and tempering.

Machinability similar to that of mild steel can be expected, however weldability is reduced.

Typical applications of 080A42 grade steel

  • Axles
  • Spindles
  • Studs
  • Automotive components
  • General engineering components

080A42 steel is still often referred to as EN8D steel - its equivalent grade under the previous BS 970: 1955 standard.
