S355 - Low Carbon Manganese Steel

Surcharge

December sees surcharges for carbon steels rise to their highest level of 2018, on the back of an increase in the Scrap surcharge.

The picture is more mixed for alloy steels, with some grades seeing their surcharges fall.

Surcharge information as listed via Liberty Speciality Steels where possible, other based on mean chemical analysis for the given grade.

Description

S355 grade steel is a medium tensile, low carbon manganese steel which is readily weldable and possesses good impact resistance (also in sub-zero temperatures).

This material is commonly supplied in the untreated or normalised condition and is available in several variations (denoted by additional letters and/or digits) which offer slight modifications of chemical composition and mechanical properties.

Machinability of this material is similar to that of mild steel.

***Hillfoot now stock 80 - 230mm diameter S355 material sourced from a DNV, Lloyds and ABS approved mill in Western Europe.***
