1050 - Medium Carbon Steel

Surcharge

Both Scrap and most alloys saw a small increase going into April, meaning surcharges for the majority of grades increased slightly.

Nickel has been rising steadily (albeit not significantly) in recent weeks and therefore we would expect to see this filter through to the surcharges in the coming weeks.

Surcharge information as listed via Liberty Speciality Steels where possible, other based on mean chemical analysis for the given grade.

Description

1050 grade steel is a medium carbon steel with good tensile strength.

Although this grade is capable of through hardening by quenching and tempering on limited sections, it is more commonly supplied in the untreated or normalised condition.

It possesses good wear resistance, but poor weldability.

Typical applications of 1050 grade steel
