Description

080M40 grade steel is a medium carbon steel offering moderate tensile strengths.

The material is capable of through hardening by quenching and tempering on limited sections, but is more commonly supplied in the untreated or normalized condition.

Machinability similar to that of mild steel can be expected, however weldability is reduced.

Typical applications of 080M40 grade steel

  • Axles
  • Spindles
  • Studs
  • Automotive components
  • General engineering components

080M40 steel is still often referred to as EN8 steel - its equivalent grade under the previous BS 970: 1955 standard.
