Description

070M55 grade steel is a medium carbon steel with good tensile strength.

Although this grade is capable of through hardening by quenching and tempering on limited sections, it is more commonly supplied in the untreated or normalised condition.

It possesses good wear resistance, but poor weldability.

Typical applications of 070M55 grade steel

  • Gears
  • Cylinders
  • Cams
  • Sprockets

070M55 steel is still often referred to as EN9 steel - its equivalent grade under the previous BS 970: 1955 standard.
