8630 - Low Alloy Nickel-Chromium Case Hardening Steel

Surcharge

Both Scrap and most alloys saw a small increase going into April, meaning surcharges for the majority of grades increased slightly.

Nickel has been rising steadily (albeit not significantly) in recent weeks and therefore we would expect to see this filter through to the surcharges in the coming weeks.

Surcharge information as listed via Liberty Speciality Steels where possible, other based on mean chemical analysis for the given grade.

Description

8630 grade steel is a medium Carbon steel superior to 8620.

This grade responds readily to direct hardening with as quenched surface hardness reaching 46-52 HRc. It can be used for case hardening with good hardenability levels.

This grade demonstrates an excellent forgeability and weldability.

For many applications it can be used as an alternative to more costly heavy alloyed case hardening steels.

Typical applications of 8630 grade steel

  • Gears
  • Pins
  • Shafts
  • Camshafts
  • Drive wheels
  • Clutch plates
