Hillfoot bring you an update on the April 2019 surcharges for carbon and alloy steels.

There has been a slight rise in the surcharges for carbon and alloy steels for April 2019, with both Scrap and alloys seeing an increase.

Scrap rose from £223 per tonne in March to £229, increasing the surcharges on carbon grades, although they remain at a lower level than seen in January and February.

The picture is similar for alloy grades, with the majority also seeing surcharge increases in April.

Hillfoot’s Executive Director Simon Taylor said: “Both Scrap and most alloys saw a small increase going into April, meaning surcharges for the majority of grades increased slightly.

"Nickel has been rising steadily (albeit not significantly) in recent weeks and therefore we would expect to see this filter through to the surcharges in the coming weeks."
