Hillfoot Precision Components

Hillfoot Precision Components provides machined parts produced from bar, forgings and castings in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. From our global manufacturing resources we aim to help our customers face the challenges of modern manufacturing, providing quality precision parts, delivered on a JIT basis.

This is demonstrated through a part we now supply into a driveline assembly for the off highway vehicle sector.

The component in question had been produced in the same way for many years, however with design changes and modifications meaning its' application had become more and more strenuous, the limitations of the treated steel bar used to produce the part, were starting to cause some concern.

A combination of rising steel, transport and sub-contract costs was making the finished assembly less and less commercially viable and along with the issues regarding the limitations of steel bar, the whole production looked to have a very insecure future.

Working together, Engineers from our customer and Hillfoot Precision Components designed a forging, which could be heat treated individually, to achieve the desired properties far more successfully than bar.

Using our Asian manufacturing resource we were able to produce the forgings, heat treat, and machine the part, resulting in both a price saving in excess of 25% and an improvement in quality.

This project is now running at high production volumes and the customer has achieved both direct savings on the component price, and indirect savings on transport and administration, all helping to keep them competitive in the market place. In addition to this the project has also provided a solution to a long running technical issue.
