Hillfoot bring you an update on the February 2017 surcharges for carbon and alloy steels.

The surcharges for carbon steel and many alloy steel grades have climbed again for February 2017, following a further rise in the scrap surcharge.

Scrap increased by £10 this month, with the surcharge now £148 per tonne, compared with £78 as recently as November 2016.

Simon Taylor, Purchasing Manager for Hillfoot, explained: “Scrap continued to rise, with its third consecutive monthly increase leading to a two-year high.

“Most alloys also increased, with only nickel showing a slight reduction on the back of increased global stocks.”
